Event: 05/11/2010
For art lovers, seasoned collectors and novices the 15th annual Balmain Art and Craft Show
provides the opportunity to take home original pieces at affordable prices.

The leading cultural community event showcases, according to the website: "the full breath of artistic expression from inspirational Indigenous and contemporary art to unique high quality designer crafts".

Hundreds of original contemporary art works and quality craft including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, indigenous art works and limited edition prints from noteworthy and emerging artists will be displayed and available for purchase directly and through silent auctions.

At the opening night on Friday November 5 you can have the opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy life music, sample culinary delights including exceptional local and international beer and wines.

Contemporary artists including James Wilebrant, Laura Mathews, Jennie Pry, Julia Roberts and Ros Stampfli work will be displayed at the free event.

The indigenous gallery on Jane Street will feature gallery talks about the stories and symbols of the art and the different styles that define the various regions throughout Australia.

Featured artist Sophie Gralton often paints her muse, her daughter Isadora. "Her latest exhibition promises a trip down memory lane to an old-fashioned childhood of lost innocence and simple pleasures."

The contemporary and vintage craft rooms offer an eclectic mix from the kitsch and exotic to the traditional range of items.

The whole family can take part with a variety of craft activities including cake, cookie, t-shirt and bag decoration, make your own Christmas cards, wooden toy construction and face painting for children.

The Sydney Ports Photo Competition for Kids finalists will be judged and displayed at the event.

The competition features school students photographs of a working harbour for the chance to win an Apple iPad plus a $150 gift voucher.

If all that art admiring has left you hungry there is an on-site cafe offering delicious treats.
