A week or so before strolling through Elsternwick, I'd been successfully living off a low-carb diet. No bread, no rice and no pasta. It was horrible, but I was doing it. Then, I found and in an instant I punched my diet in the face.

It's exactly what you imagine when you hear that name - Bagelicious. Multitudes of fresh, warm bagels with oh so many different flavors to choose from. There are around fifteen different kinds including poppy seed, sesame, sourdough, zaatar and rye. So many choices and we haven't even begun thinking about toppings.

You can DIY it and choose the toppings yourself, or choose from the menu. There are four categories to help you pick your toppings: hot, cold, sweet and savoury. The strawberry cream cheese bagel looked like heaven - the perfect accompaniment to steaming hot coffee.

The savoury options include dips such as eggplant and green tahini, goat cheese, smoked salmon, BLT and roast beef. But be sure to check the daily specials before choosing your bagel. I ordered the salami special with feta cheese, spinach and pesto. As a serious pesto enthusiast, I was impressed.

Not into bagels? No worries. have a 'not a bagel' menu, including salad, soup and grilled chicken.

Now, the first thing you'll notice inside is that it's cosy - perhaps a little too cosy. On a busy day, when minds are focusing on nothing but caffeine, it can be a little awkward trying to get inside. The coffee machine is oddly placed, and you may just whack someone with the door. Once through, things are still difficult. The furniture seems to be laid out so that no matter what you're doing you're in someone's way.

Fortunately, there is plenty of outside seating. Much roomier, complimented by some kitsch fake lawn, the outside area is heated, so no worries in winter. I'm sure inside is fine too, as long as you're there during a quiet time of day.

If you're into bagels, this is the spot for you. There are enough choices to keep you experimenting forever. They even have mini-bagels for the kids. also provide catering. Be sure to check out their website for details.
