Autumn 'Road Trip' by Foot

We are so obsessed with wheels these days that we risk missing the everyday wonder in the world that surrounds us.
Sure, getting in the car is generally more time efficient, and yet the benefits of walking to mental and physical health, not to mention the environment, are well known.
Today in Melbourne it is "Walking-Safely-to-School Day". It was foggy and cool, and I momentarily wondered whether we might just jump in the car.
But how glad I am we didn't.
I cannot recall a longer Autumn show than we are currently enjoying in Melbourne. The trees are hanging on despite wind and rain, and it can only be days before it is all swept away for another year.
With mild temperatures forecast for the next week, it's a great chance to get out and sample the delights of the local streets by foot - a kind of suburban road trip.
There were so many wondrous details to be observed this morning; intricate and delicate things that we are oblivious to in a drive by.
The most important ingredient to a walking 'road trip' is time and observation. If you're doing it for fitness, you will miss the best part.
And although many of us struggle to fit all that is required of us into a day, the benefits are palpable.
Best of all the road trip by foot is absolutely free, but with added benefits.
