The Australian International Air Show is an annual event where you can see a range of commercial and military aircraft on display. Avalon Airport will be open to the public from Friday March 1 to Sunday March 3.

Friday afternoon the gates will open at 2pm (or at 9am if you have a gold pass). Over the weekend trading hours are 8am to 6pm. And there is plenty to do.

Watch the skies for some aerial action and see the static displays. Photographers will have a field day.

Keep the children entertained in the Kids Zone. As part of the admission cost the kiddies can face paint, make paper planes and ride aircraft pedal cars.

For those who want to see something different visit the Avalon Arena. This year there will be stunt bikes, off road buggy demonstrations and monster trucks.

No need to bring lunch as there will be cafes and food venues everywhere.

If you hang around until it gets dark there is also the special night show, which is a spectacular way to end the evening.

Ticket prices for general admission is worthwhile as there will be plenty of freebies to grab from posters to show bags.

• Children under 5 Free

If you do not want to spend $10 to park your car at Avalon you can always commute to Lara station and then catch a shuttle bus.
