This Australia Day, why not enjoy the food, entertainment and fireworks on offer at Brisbane's Southbank Parklands?
This year, Southbank will once again play host to
Great Australian Bites for the four days leading up to and including Australia Day. On these days, four Southbank eateries (Aquitaine Brasserie, Popolo Italian Kitchen, The Cove Bar and Dining and The Jetty Southbank) will be running pop-up food stalls featuring quality Queensland ingredients. Situated at River Quay, the stalls will serve a variety of taster plates and drinks as you relax and enjoy Brisbane City and river views while you wait for the fireworks.

The stalls are open from 11am to 9 pm on Australia Day and there will also be a program of live entertainment on the stage as local artists provide music as you enjoy your food. Some of the talent onstage will include contemporary r&b/pop duo
Radius and the folk rock sounds of
Cameron Milford. Also appearing are bands,
The Francis Wolves with their blend of funk and garage Afro music, along with
Angel Strings,
The Pockets and
Kerbside Collection. Other solo artists include
Jack Carty,
Sahara Beck,
Karl S. Williams and
Bobby Alu. The music will conclude at 9pm.
Of course all of Southbank's normal activities are also on offer. The pools, playgrounds, numerous restaurants and free barbecues are all accessible. Why not pack up the esky and cook your Australia Day lamb, snags or steaks on one of the many barbecues, or laze around at the Streets Beach pool or Boat Pool. Kids will enjoy the new playground and Aquativity water play area.
The highlight of the day will of course be the
Fireworks at 7:30pm. Triple M 104.5 will broadcast the Fireworks soundtrack. With the exception of the River Quay area, all public areas of Southbank are alcohol free zones, so leave your drinks at home.
Southbank is easily accessible by trains, buses and ferries and there will be extra services on Australia Day. Southbank does get quite busy on Australia Day, so arrive early if you want to find a good vantage point for the fireworks. Many of Southbank's other restaurants and cafes will all be open if you don't feel like packing a picnic. You can find a list of them
