Mon 01 May 2017 - Wed 31 May 2017

Thanks to an amazing friend of mine, over the last few years, I have gone from a spirit drinker almost to a wine aficionado. Well, not quite, I'm very enthusiastic but maybe not quite knowledgeable. I have however learned to appreciate my version of a good drop.

Aussie Wine Month is Australia's biggest celebration of Australian wine and is held all around Australia's wine regions during the month of May. Now in its sixth year, Aussie Wine Month celebrates the diversity, quality and regionality of Australian wines and seeks to create excitement about Australian wine.

In South Australia, there is an amazing array of events on offer for you to enjoy, all featuring fantastic South Australian wine. Here are my top picks for 2017.

Savouring SA

Wirra Wirra offers you the opportunity to go behind the scenes on Saturday 13 May 2017 from 11 am to 2.30 pm. Located at the corner of Strout and McMurtrie Roads, McLaren Vale, the Savouring SA event offers you the opportunity to enjoy a tasting in the original cellar door, take a tour of the historical barrel hall and ring the ¾ tonne Angelus Bell. Gain insight into the different styles of South Australian wine over lunch featuring local produce with wines from McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Clare Valley, the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley.

All guests receive a 10% discount on wine purchase with complimentary freight on shipping to anywhere in Australia. There are limited tickets available, so don't miss out on this exclusive experience. Tickets are $200 per person for this once in a lifetime event and can be purchased online at the Wirra Wirra website .

The Dead Arm Shiraz Vertical

Located in iconic McLaren Vale, d'Arenberg is hosting The Dead Arm Shiraz Vertical Masterclass and Cheese Tasting Plate from 1 to 31 May 2017. This 90 minute extravaganza is not for the fainthearted and is a masterclass which will take you through the history of the outstanding Dead Arm Shiraz, whilst being skilfully guided through each back-vintage sample. All lovingly matched to a cheese tasting plate; wine and cheese, what could be better!

The experience does not stop there though, at the end of the class you will be gifted a current vintage bottle of The Dead Arm Shiraz presented in a gift box and signed by the winemaker, fourth generation family member Chester Osborn.

Priced at $200 per person, this very special event is being held at 58 Osborn Road, McLaren Vale daily at 2 pm. Bookings can be made at the website . For further information please contact d'Arenberg on 8329 4888.
