It may have a name that is tricky to pronounce and even more difficult to spell, but the Auchendarroch House has had a long history of service in Mount Barker, which continues to this day. The Combination of the Wallis Cinema and the Auchendarroch House and Tavern will provide a good night out for all who come to this Mount Barker landmark.
With a Scottish-Gaelic name which translates to "holy place of the oaks," Auchendarroch House originally opened in 1860 as the Oakfield Hotel, run by Scottish immigrant Lachlan MacFarlane. English Architect Robert Barr Smith bought the hotel in 1878 and converted it into a 30 room mansion, which is how it still stands today.
The building has served as a summer home for the Barr Smith family, a rest home and an Air Force Hospital. It wasn't until the Wallis family bought the property in 2002 that Auchendarroch House was restored with most of its original décor and furnishings, and the mansion now serves its present role as a wedding and function facility.
But the mansion also serves the public as a place where they can enjoy a meal or a drink with friends, as the Auchendarroch House and Tavern. Here people can enjoy lunch or dinner in their spacious dining area or enjoy a drink with friends at the bar.
The Wallis Cinema next door will provide Auchendarroch patrons with a nice end to their meal
Set with an atmosphere suiting the original Scottish origin of the mansion, the Auchendarroch Tavern has a gorgeous setting which will appeal to all who enter. From the Scotch thistle logo to the waiters wearing their tartan vests, the Tavern fully embraces the history and the heritage of the old mansion.
The service is exceptional with waiters and bar attendants quick to serve any patrons who are waiting to be served. The food is of top quality, with lunch deals always available from Monday to Saturday. Set menus are available for large groups and a kids menu is also available for anyone who brings the little ones along with them.
Patrons can also enjoy live performances from musicians every Saturday starting at 7:30pm and continuing until closing time.
Of course with the property being bought by the Wallis family, there has to be a Wallis Cinema close by as well. Right next door to the tavern is the Wallis Cinema Mount Barker. The go to place for Adelaide Hills residents to see the latest movie releases, a movie at the Wallis Cinema Mount Barker can provide the perfect end to an entertaining evening. People can enjoy the latest blockbuster movie with a popcorn and drink combo, if they are still hungry of course.
Those looking to save money from having dinner and a movie, the Auchendarroch Tavern has it all covered; purchase a Movie Meal Deal, which includes a meal from their Movie Meal Menu and a Wallis movie ticket for $28.90.
With the combination of fine dining, good service and the prospect of enjoying a movie at the cinema next door, the Auchendarroch House and Tavern is sure to provide a great night out for anyone in the Adelaide Hills.
