The
housing market has become ridiculously overpriced, affecting some neighbourhoods significantly more than others. Sometimes the
real estate listings that feature houses in your area may not tell the whole story, especially if there's private negotiation between buyer and seller that isn't recorded.
Keep an eye out for property auctions in your suburb. Most times these are discovered during your routine walk or jog. Indeed, you may come across two or three auctions scheduled less than two months apart. Consider going to the one that's closest to home, or attend both if you want. That's one of the best ways to get some indication of how much your
property is worth.
Normally the property would be open for inspection just before the auction. Make sure you go along to that, for you might pick up some great
home improvement ideas. Plus, you'd be able to scab a few lollies for free, if they're available.
Just remember, if you live in the
State of Victoria, don't engage in the unscrupulous practice of
dummy bidding. Not only is it against the law, it adds an unnecessary strain to an already more than expensive real estate market.
