Indulge your creative side at this year’s
Melbourne International Arts Festival, which continues to be one of the leading events in Melbourne’s packed cultural calendar. The festival covers a diverse range of the arts, from music and opera, to theatre, dance and film.
The festival will run for 17 days and attracts some of the finest artists from both Australia and overseas, with many highly anticipated events that sell out fast. As part of the
festival opening weekend, a free three-part celebration will be run on Friday 9th October to kick things off.
Beginning at 7pm at
Birrarung Marr by the Yarra, bells all across the city, from churches to schools, will peal in celebration. An outdoor performance by Melbourne’s celebrated theater company
Strange Fruit will follow, using natural light and acoustic sound in an imaginative and moving spectacle.
To top it all off, head over to the
Alexandra Gardens at 9pm to see acclaimed European street art company
Transe Express, who will perform a dazzling circus inspired show, 130 feet in the air against the Melbourne night sky.
In case you miss out, the opening weekend festivities will be repeated every night until Monday 12th October. However, it’s only the beginning of a jam-packed
program worth exploring. Be sure to check out the website for more details or book
tickets online.
