Love browsing seemingly endless market stalls on a lazy Sunday? At your leisure in an inspiring environment? And, of course, making some wonderful discoveries along the way? Then the Arts Centre Sunday Market is for you!

It’s kind of a Melbourne institution, it’s been around for what seems like ages, and it’s located in the throbbing, arty heart of town, where there's always a bunch of other fun stuff going on too.

The market is well known as the ‘Maker’s Market’, because the people selling the arts and crafts are generally the creative souls who have followed their passions and made the gear.

They’re artisans and, I believe, deserving of our support for the art they bring to a world struggling under the weight of mass production.

If you happen to be one of those creative souls yourself, and your nimble fingers have been busy creating, you might even consider holding a stall yourself. Click here for more details.)

There are around 150 diverse stalls spanning two levels. Their temptations include anything from antique kaleidoscopes, ceramics, sculptures, leadlight products, artwork and photography, along with all those decorative bits we might like to adorn ourselves with, like scarves, silks, hats and all manner of jewels, baubles and pearls.

If you’d like to double up and see a show or exhibition at the Arts Centre while you’re at it, check what’s on in marvellous Melbourne here.

While there are some very tempting gourmet food stalls at the market itself, there are also plenty of great places nearby for a lift-me-up latte or something delish to eat.

EQ Café Bar is probably one of my favourites, not only for its fabulous food, but also for its prime location – perfect for watching those enthusiastic rowers sweating it out on the Yarra, while you sit back and relax. Check out other yummy hot spots here.

The Arts Centre Sunday Market is easy to get to, whether you’re driving, walking, cycling or jumping on a train or tram. Go on, you'll be glad you did!
