I read about this great award-winning gelato place in Carramar (near Fairfield) and I love a good ice cream, so I had to take a look and try it for myself. The drive out there proved fruitful and well worth it.

They have some spectacular and unique flavours in their sorbets and dairy range, such as blood orange sorbet, caramel & fig, honey praline, and green apple, along with some of the more usual flavours you find in an ice creamery. They also have some Asian flavours, green tea and taro, among others.

We met the owner and gelato maker, Martino, who was very friendly. He is always coming up with new flavours and has just returned from the Gelato World Cup in Italy where he won the mystery box prize with his Loacker gelato creation. We tried this one as well and it was delicious. It is based around the Loacker biscuit, which is a crunchy Italian treat that has a chocolate and hazelnut flavour.

Martino has won many awards in various states in Australia at Royal Dairy shows and it is easy to see why. His passion in the art of gelato shines through with his creations.

You can eat in the beautiful gelataria café with its Italian style of beautiful hanging flowers, long couch, paintings and ornaments or you can buy a tub or two to takeaway.

They also have ice cream cakes, desserts and a good cup of coffee. Great place for morning or afternoon tea.

I highly recommend this place. It is at 30 Horsley Drive, Carramar and they are open quite late, so you could even pop in after work on a hot summer's evening for a nice cool treat. It's easily recognised by the large gelato out front and the bright pink building.
