Art Melbourne 2010

Home > Things to do in Melbourne > Art | Exhibitions
Event: 22/04/2010
Art Melbourne is once again gracing our fair city with its beauty, charm and arty grandeur. Being held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton from the 22nd to 25th of April 2010, the event will display some of the most magnificent art pieces from over a hundred galleries across Australia and overseas.

Visitors can browse the thousands of paintings, sculptures, photography, indigenous works and new media art and have a chat with one (or all!) of the dozens of artists who will be around to talk about their work.

Worried that you don't know your da Vinci from your Streeton? Not a worry – Art Melbourne doesn't discriminate! So whether you're an art aficionado or humble first-time buyer, you'll be sure to come across a magnificent work of art to bring home with you. You could consider purchasing artwork from one of the currently unrepresented and undiscovered (but no less talented) artists who will have their work on display at the show. Not only are these pieces unavailable in local galleries, they are all priced at under $5000 – a bargain in anyone's eyes!

But if you're more a browser than a buyer, that's fine too. Art Melbourne is a great way to expand your horizons and learn something new – free, informal art tours with leading Australian experts will be entertaining as well as informative. Keep your eyes on the Off The Wall exhibition, too. It is dedicated to showcasing emerging artists from around Australia and is a major feature of the event.

Mums and Dads, there's no need to organise a babysitter – weekend art activities aimed at children over 5 will definitely keep little ones occupied and perhaps unearth a hidden talent.

As Sir John Lubbock once said, "Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness".

Tickets available through Ticketek.
