The leaves are changing colour but the weather is still brilliant. It's a great time to get out of the house and go see (or maybe even do) some art. Melbourne has a wonderful array of art exhibitions and events on at any time. Here is a taste of what's on in the art world in April.



MELBOURNE CITY EVENTS

Tall Trees and Tributories
**Sunday 19th April, 4.30-6.30pm
Free Event – all ages
Federation Square & Birrarung Marr, meet at the Flinders Street Amphitheatre**

As part of Scenes on the Yarra , Tall Trees and Tributaries is a guided walking art project though Federation Square and Birrarung Marr beside the Yarra River. Features include storytelling, performances, music and song.

Heartlands and Headwaters

New works by John Wolseley celebrating water forms in Australia from rivers to swamps and floodplains.

At Dusk, Under the Clocks

City Gallery, Ground floor, Melbourne Town Hall, 110 Swanston Street, Melbourne**

Photographic exhibition featuring Melbourne in low light, in the dusk, in winter time and with neon lights ranging over a period from 1968 to 1971. Angus O'Callaghan's photographs capture a much earlier Melbourne in a particular evocation of time and mood.

Theatres of War

Arts Centre Melbourne, 100 St Kilda Road, Southbank**

An exhibition from the Arts Centre Melbourne's Performing Arts Collection, looking at "the significant role played by the performing arts in the lives of Australians affected by war", the exhibition chronicles conflicts over time from the First World War through to Afghanistan.

SUBURBAN AND BEYOND EVENTS

In the West, Hobsons Bay Council is running its Art in Public Places month-long celebration featuring a huge range of installations, events and exhibitions. See their program for full details.

Head to the mountains for the annual Dandenong Ranges Open Studios where you can meet local artists and watch them at work. Lessons and workshops are also available.

Oil Painting at the You Yangs
