Welcome to AprilFest , where one day in the month of April, local retirement village Prins Willem Alexander hosts a authentic Dutch Festival. The purpose of this festival is so the whole community can experience and witness the wonders of Dutch culture, interact the people that live within the village plus all money raised goes to improving the facilities medical hostel.

On the last Sunday of April, the 27th, come to Birkdale's own little Dutch town to indulge yourself in Dutch cuisine and coffee, cakes and drinks. You can also enjoy some second-hand shopping with the workers and tenants of the village running their own stalls to display to the public how they are coming along. For the kids there are jumping castles, rock-climbing walls, live entertainment and plenty of food to enjoy!

If you're stuck for what to try, these are some Dutch favourites that you will definitely see on the day: such as poffertjes which are mini pancakes, oliebollen (my favourite food which can be compared to a freshly deep fried donut with sultanas & covered in icing sugar. Some other favourites of festival goers are herring, paling, huzaren salade and croquettes. All of these are on offer during the day – and let's not forget the Heineken and Grolsch!
