Release your inner child and have a go at dodging sprays of water, down at the Southbank Centre.
Danish artist, Jeppe Hein’s, popular Appearing Rooms installation is in situ at the
Southbank Centre level 2 terrace, outside the Royal Festival Hall, until Friday October 23rd. If you’re going to be in this area, then it’s worth going along to see it – or having a go – as it’s completely free of charge.
The idea behind is that jets of water soar into the area to create a series of instant rooms. But as quickly as they appear, they disappear again. If you don’t mind the chance of getting wet, then anyone can have a go at chancing their luck and guessing where the jets will – and won’t – make their next appearance.
Jeppe Hein’s water installation was originally commissioned for the Villa Manin Centre for Contemporary Art in Italy, but due to it’s popularity, it’s since been used in various other parts of the world so more people can experience it.
Appearing Rooms is a novel idea and can be enjoyed by both adults and children. Even if you don’t fancy getting wet, it’s fun to watch the walls of water shooting up and rooms being created (and watch the fate of people who do brave it!).
The Southbank Centre is located in Central London, on the riverside beside the Thames, between Golden Jubilee and Waterloo Bridges.
