My grandfather fought in
Gallipoli , my father in
Alamein in World War II, and my husband's great uncle was one of the
Rats of Tobruk . It's important to us that their selflessness and the sacrifices of others, many who lost their lives, is not forgotten. Every year, my husband attends an Anzac Day Dawn Service. He hopes that one day our children will choose to join him.
Until that day, the Anzac Eve Concert is a free, all ages, classical concert commemorating those who have served and sacrificed. Presented by the RSL (Queensland Branch) and Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the third annual Anzac Eve Concert will take place at Suncorp Piazza, South Bank Parklands on April 24, 2012; from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Since the 1920's, the Dawn Service (a symbol of the dawn landing at Gallipoli) has been the customary way to remember the fallen on Anzac Day. If you would like to keep tradition alive, here is a list of Dawn Services in Brisbane.
