When another
Anzac Day comes around, Australians will again pause to remember the sacrifices made by hundreds of thousands of our soldiers, sailors and aviators.
At 4.15am, the Dawn Service will begin at the
Cenotaph in Martin Place. As darkness gives way to light, the reverential crowd of children, adults and greying servicemen will silently reflect on battles fought and lives lost, in a tradition that dates back to the 25th of April, 1916, one year after the Anzacs came ashore at
Gallipoli.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The traditional
march will start at nine o'clock, and will follow a
route that leads from Pitt Street along Martin Place, George Street, Bathurst Street and then Elizabeth Street. It will conclude near Hyde Park's
Anzac Memorial, where the Commemorative Service will be taking place from 12.30pm.
Finally, at 5.30pm, as light once more fades to darkness, the Sunset Service Ceremony will get under way at the Cenotaph, marking a fitting end to the 95th Anzac Day.
Parramatta will be hosting its own service and march, beginning at 4.30am in
Prince Alfred Park.
Many communities across Sydney will also be putting on their own events. To find the one nearest you,
