Are you a wacky person who is hoping to do wacky things with other wacky people on the (non-wacky dates of the) 5th and 6th of September? If so, the Japanese-soaked
Animania Festival Weekend is for you! (If not, please stop reading this article and
go here instead.)
This year’s program is jam-packed with wacky goodness and includes
anime screenings,
karaoke,
art workshops,
video games,
expert panels and “
crazy stage shows”, not to mention
cosplay games,
mini-games and dance classes. Even better, there will be an array of
stalls from which to stock up on anime treasures and an array of
Japanese and Eastern foods from which to stock up on calories.
Animania 2009 boasts no shortage of wacky highlights, the most notable being the
2009/2010 World Cosplay Summit Australian Preliminary. This event will see
cosplay (or ‘costume play’) devotees trying to outdo one another in wackiness for the right to enter next year’s World Cosplay Summit in Wacky HQ (otherwise known as Japan).
Other highlights include the
Art – ReEnact! Competition, in which fans pose as their favourite characters; the
Karaoke Competition, in which fans pose as their favourite singers; the
Great Debate, in which fans pose as intellectuals; and the Public Roundup, in which psychiatric staff roam the venue involuntary committing fans as stipulated in section 8 of the Mental Health Act 1986.
