The American Ballet Theatre (ABT), also recognised as America's national ballet company, is coming to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in 2014 for an exclusive season.

There will be various shows featuring two incredible works between 28 August and 7 September, so don't miss out on your opportunity to see this extraordinary company take the stage.

ABT was established in 1940 and has been choreographically entwined with the Russian aesthetic. They've developed a repertoire of the best ballets from 19th century such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Giselle; the most impressive works from the 20th century including Apollo, Les Sylphides, and Jardin aux Lilas; and the much admired contemporary masterpieces like Airs, Push Comes to Shove and Duets. In addition to appearances in all fifty states of the United States, the Company has also toured 43 countries appearing in 136 cities altogether. In 2014, ABT and its exceptional dancers will perform in Australia for the first time with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

The New York based company will perform two productions exclusively at QPAC: Swan Lake plus a triple bill which features works by three top choreographers of the modern era.

Set to Tchaikovsky's famous score, Swan Lake is probably the world's favourite ballet. This compelling tale of tragic romance about the troubled prince and the swan queen is brought to life by Tchaikovsky's poignant and unforgettable score. Choreographed by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, this production features breathtaking sets and costumes guaranteed to captivate and fascinate audiences. With brilliant choreography, visually superb settings and Tchaikovsky's glorious music, this quintessential ballet is one not to be missed.

The second production features a program of three masterpieces featuring more modern works - two signature American classics Fancy Free by Jerome Robbins and Bach Partita by Twyla Tharp; and a new work Seven Sonatas by acclaimed Russian choreographer Alexei Ratmansky. This performance will not only show the true American spirit of the Company, but also display their amazing versatility and talent bringing an edgy and fresh approach to ballet.

The American Ballet Theatre is the company to see in 2014. It's exciting, astounding, modern, and absolutely captivating!
