The Christmas school holidays are very long and so we are often looking for something to entertain the kids for a few hours.
The third instalment in the Alvin and the Chipmunks film franchise is called "
Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chipwrecked" and is ideal for kids aged 4 to around 9 years. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen the previous movies as it is a stand alone film and not a sequel.

The movie starts with Alvin and his family embarking on a family cruise holiday on the 'Carnival Dream'. We see them dancing and enjoying the various shipboard activities amongst the other passengers, with quite a bit of hijinks thrown in. The mucking around all gets a bit out of hand and that's where the movie takes a turn as they are "chipwrecked" on a lush tropical island somewhere in the Caribbean.
The film is very light hearted and there is nothing scary for the little ones. There is a lot of top 40 style pop music featured which the older kids will all recognise and can groove along with the characters. It uses a mix of human actors integrated with computer generated characters to tell a fun story with a happy ending.
My kids all loved it and it wasn't too painful for me to sit through either.
