The Royal Queensland Art Society is based at The
Petrie Terrace Gallery and has been supporting artists since 1887. The Gallery can accommodate approximately forty linear metres of hanging space which gives both artists and visitors the room to view all works from the best possible angle. Overlooking
Hardgrave Park , the Gallery is close to the city and in easy walking distances from cafés and bars. There is ample parking available on the street level.
Commencing 12th April and running through to 29th April, the Gallery is currently holding
All Creatures Exhibition , which features artworks depicting wildlife and pets. The exhibition was officially opened by Michael Beatty from
RSPCA with public viewing available on Tuesday through to Sunday from 10am to 3.30pm. There is something about animals that makes our hearts melt and the artist captures our endearing side by bringing the creatures to life right before our eyes.
If you would like a beautiful image of one of the paintings, you can contact Meredith Howse on 3367 1977 who is the Curator for this exhibition. Entry to the exhibition is free.
The prizes total $849 which includes a first prize of $500 and a People's Choice Award of a year's membership to the Royal Queensland Art Society. Judges for this exhibition were Sandra Temple and guest artist Philiip Blythe, who is also a well-known storybook illustrator and author.
Exhibitions are run all year and a list of upcoming exhibitions can be located on the RQAS website. The RQAS is a vibrant society and information on becoming a member can be found
here . Members can hire the Gallery at a discounted rate; however prices start at $1,295.00 for one week's hire. The Petrie Terrace Gallery is located at 162 Petrie Terrace, Brisbane.
