Is it just me that feels like Christmas decorations and mince pies start in July and go right through until they bring the Easter buns out a few days after Christmas? It's my love hate relationship with Christmas, the commercial side is almost unbearable with pressure and guilt about the perfect day, yet I do like that it brings communities together with events like carols by candlelight in most towns and decorations and lights are hung, people in general seem happier as they look forward to the summer break.

I don't particularly like advertising big business but Aldi makes Christmas a little cheaper for everyone with a great range of products that will save on Christmas baking, decorations, trees, cards, gifts and more.

If you're just moving in to your first home or buying decorations for the first time then Aldi is definitely cheaper than anywhere else and you can pick a 7ft tree for $49.99, a 300 pack of LED fairy lights for $19.99, 3 metres of tinsel for $2.99 amongst other things.

This years range of baking products is fantastic with small baking tins only $3.99, kids will have great fun with the cake pop kits at $5.99, cute Christmas icing decorations $2.99, Christmas patty pans $2.99, cookie cutters 25 piece $3.99, silicone chocolate moulds $2.99, they even sell Christmas tin foil with different colours and decorations for $2.99.

If you make fruit cake then it's a great time to get mixed fruit with Aldi selling 1kg bags for $4.89 and 200 gram bags of glace cherries $2.49 which is heaps cheaper than what I am currently paying elsewhere.

The novelty range will bring smiles around the neighbourhood with the inflatable Santa and sleigh or the Santa and penguin design which have built in LED lights for night time illumination, priced at $49.99 each. There is also candy cane pathway lights, cherry blossom LED tree $49.99, LED rope light characters $29.99 along with a few others to choose from.

Wrapping paper and Christmas cards are covered too with Christmas paper at $2.99 for a massive 20 metre roll ( I didn't know they came longer than 5m). Cards vary in price from 99 cents for a 25 pack to $2.99 for a 10 pack of Disney cards.

Some great ways to save money at Christmas time is to bake home-made goods as presents, not only is it cost effective but it also shows you went to some effort in thinking up your creations and time spent making it. Most people appreciate it more than a present that has little meaning and they don't feel overburdened by trying to 'match' the present in return.

Another good idea is a Kris-Kringle with extended family; set a price limit and draw names out of a hat, that way everyone is spending the same without having to go crazy getting dozens of cheaper presents.

However you spend Christmas day, I hope you thoroughly enjoy it with people you love and care about.
