You can always rely on the Japanese to come up with great wisdom in all things, not the least of which are the many forms of martial arts, being practised by millions worldwide.

Aikido is a peaceful, yet dynamic form of moving meditation, and non-violent self defence.
It was developed last century by the late Ueshiba Morihei Sensei, also known as "O-Sensai" which means great teacher.

After mastering Jujutsu (unarmed defence), Kenjustsu (sword) and Sojutsu (spear) he was held in high regard as a supreme martial artist. O-Sensai was also a very spiritual man who could not accept the opposing concepts of victory and defeat, winning and losing. His teachings were based on his belief that there is no value in victory if it comes at the expense of another.

His idea was to develop a new, non-violent form of artistic combat. He devised sophisticated grappling, joint locks, circular movements, careful timing and throws. He based the concept on harmonizing with your opponent's ki energy (or energy flow) to neutralize their attack, rather than by using brute force or physical strength to defeat them. His mantra is his legacy, and O-Sensai's calm, harmonic approach to martial arts is becoming increasingly popular everywhere. Here are some Sydney Aikido Dojos:
