Last Sunday I was at home looking for a movie to watch at Event's Cinemas website. I saw there was a special screening of After Earth before the première that day, so without over-thinking, I just bought two tickets for George Street Theatre.

Even when the city was crowded enjoying the long weekend, the cinema was pretty okay and not so overwhelming. I equipped myself with my cinema kit: popcorn, water bottle and chocolate bar.

Before going to watch this movie I read some not very encouraging reviews, but I decided to give it a chance as Will Smith always presents pretty impeccable performances.

The movie

In the future, a cataclysm forces the human race to leave planet earth in the search for a new place to live.

Will Smith plays a legendary General who one day, 100 years after the cataclysm, decides to be a better father and brings his son to work to get to know him more (his son in the movie is in fact his real life son, Jaden Smith).

But a misfortune happens and their spaceship crash on a planet where human lungs can not tolerate the low oxygen levels: earth. Forced together by the mission, father and son start to bond during the trip and have to learn together how to trust each other if they want to go back home.

After Earth is a sci-fi adventure movie with a super good environmental message, heaps of visual effects and 110 minutes of good narrative, directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Maybe it was because I was told it was not a good movie and my expectations where not high, but I really enjoyed it.

I would recommend it if you are looking for something fun to watch, without a super complicated story, but a good one.
