Have you got a feeling for African? African cuisine that is. in Newtown is the place for you. This very unassuming restaurant hidden deep in the hustle and bustle of busy King Street epitomises all things African. Walk through the beaded curtain to the beautiful African host who will seat you amongst the large painted walls and deep red lighting of the simple room. But it is not the decor you come here for. The menu is soon boggling your mind as you can't read the African words and you just don't know which dishes to choose as they all sound so amazing. The host will help you out deciphering what the dishes mean and which are the best ones to choose. Representing cuisine from all over the great African continent these beautiful meals are inspired by traditional recipes.

Start off with crispy triangles or African cigars, sautéed beef mince wrapped in a golden pastry. Followed by a delicate handful of traditional fluffy dumpling, Kpoff-Kpoff , a staple of the Nigerian cuisine.
Now the excitement begins as you welcome your warm and hearty main meal. The menu is extensive so the choice is difficult but I settled on the ladies finger, okra in a rich tomato sauce and the stir fired eggplant and vegetables with a generous serving of basmati rice on the side. My meals were divine and I really wanted more but could not fit them in. Fresh produce enveloped in authentic spices beautifully sautéed and marinated to bring out the amazing flavours. There is a real sense of being in Africa, hence Feeling African is the best name for this culturally rich hidden gem.
