Vietnamese cuisine, in my opinion, has slowly been coming to the fore in recent times, as many people these days are a lot more open to different cultural food.

Whether it is a simple Vietnamese bread roll for lunch, or a more exotic bowl of Pho (a beef noodle soup) for dinner, there is plenty of Vietnamese food options to delight our tastebuds. There are plenty of mixed Asian restaurants that serve a combination of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai food, but for traditional Vietnamese-only food, to my knowledge, there are few quality restaurants.

Where then is Adelaide's best Vietnamese restaurant?

Number one on my list would have to be the famous Vietnam Restaurant on Addison Road in Pennington. This restaurant has toiled very hard over the past couple of decades to establish itself into a very fine dining venue. Famous for their quails and pork balls, it is a popular choice for not only Vietnamese people, but for Western people, including politicians and noteworthy people from council.

If you make it there, you will find a wall of past photos, awards, and newspaper clippings that they have accumulated over the years.

Another restaurant is Vietnam Sunrise at the corner of Holbrooks Road and Henley Beach Road in Brooklyn Park. It is reasonably new, and thus I have yet to give them a go. I have heard mixed reviews about this restaurant, but for traditional Vietnamese food, it should be worth trying.

As some people may know, down Hanson Road, around Woodville Gardens and nearby suburbs, there are plenty of local Vietnamese eateries. Be warned, they are not fine dining establishments, but if you are after good food and friendly service, they are all worth a go. There are too many to name, but popular ones include Nghi Ngan Quan and Tan Nhu Y, which is on Hanson Road, Athol Park. The latter is one I also highly recommend and have been there myself several times. Their menu is huge, and not only that, their servings are pretty big as well. If you order a few dishes to share, you will leave feeling full and most likely require take away for all the unfinished food.

Being Vietnamese myself, I am always on the lookout for tasty traditional Vietnamese food. Is there anywhere else that you can recommend?
