When I wrote my first article about the , I was relying on advance publicity, so it was tricky to anticipate exactly what the event would offer. I wrote:
Why sit around at home watching 60 Minutes on a beautiful Sunday evening, when you could be promenading through premier parkland enjoying the balmy evening, fine food and browsing bargains?

It could hardly have been more accurate, and the first market held on a glorious Sunday evening was highly successful.

The low late afternoon sun streamed through the massed trees on North Terrace and hundreds of people swarmed around food and craft stalls while cooking scents floated on a light breeze.

Arriving at around 5.30pm, the market was already busy with queues at a couple of the food stalls. Children played on the lawns, climbing statues and playing hide and seek in tall ferns.

Food and craft stalls intermingled, perhaps to encourage grazing rather than having a large concentration of food stalls in one place. A great idea I think.

The market had a very casual atmosphere, and I had the impression that most people came as couples, families and groups.

There was plenty of social intercourse on the lawns (no, not that!) and the large mats on the lawn were a nice touch to avoid damp derrieres.

There was a choice of food to suit even fussy eaters - Asian stalls from Swinging Bowl of Satay and Red Lotus, Spanish, Mexican and Italian.

Visitors with a sweet tooth were tempted with cupcakes and Bodri's Chimney Cakes .

Of course I haven't been able to list all the stalls (sorry guys!), but you should like the Facebook page to keep up with the latest news of who to expect.

It is hard to imagine that anyone left this market with an empty stomach! Organiser Brian sought people's reactions on Facebook to the market, and the reception overall was overwhelmingly positive. The main complaint I saw was a lack of loos, and that was taken care of quickly.

There will be new stalls appearing each market and of course the entertainment will vary too. I was lucky enough to hear 50 in the City playing there one week - brilliant!

So keep the last Sunday evening of the month clear, the ratings season is over so it's only rubbish on TV anyway. Come and explore the goodies and pleasure yourself with delicious food as you unwind from the weekend.
