ABC Gardening Expo

Published August 17th 2010
From 20 to 22 August, in the JR Fleming Stand and Grounds of Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, the ABC Gardening Expo will provide a single venue for gardening enthusiasts, fresh food cooks, and everyone in between.

The Gardening Expo seeks to provide practical advice for people interested in organics, sustainable food production in the urban cityscape, and anyone who wants to see their garden in full bloom. As a result, the Expo will be divided into a series of small, specialty areas. These include an interactive area concerning "Inner City Gardening", a stage full of demonstrations of the "Organic Circle", and "The Potting Shed", which will be packed with ABC TV's Gardening Australia personalities.

A particularly valuable exhibition for an avid gardener can be found in the Q and A section of the Expo, where Angus Stewart, Stephen Ryan and Tino Carnevale will be answering questions from the audience. These horticulturalists and broadcasters represent a significant slice of Gardening Australia's national team.

While these attractions may be enough to lure adults to Rosehill, it is always a challenge convincing young children to spend a day contemplating the daisies, geraniums or succulents. Aware of this issue, the organisers have made ample provision for young people: with a "Backyard Creatures" feature boasting lizards, bees and chickens as well as a "Backyard Games" features, including supersized chess games. If neither of these stations appeal, there is also an ABC for Kids Activity Area, with appearances by popular characters from ABC for Kids TV programs.

The ABC Gardening Australia Expo has something for people of all ages. What's more, you do not have to worry about booking tickets, with onsite sales in cash available. If you are the sort of person who doesn't enjoy standing in line, it is also possible to book online. As a general guide, an adult ticket will cost $17, with a $2 discount for pensioners. Buying a ticket for children between the ages of 5 and 16 costs only $6 and children under 5 can enter for free. There are, however, discounts provided for groups of ten.
