It's time to whet the appetite! Tastebuds will be in overdrive at this year's four-day
Taste of Melbourne at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. It runs from Thursday the 27th to Sunday the 30th of August. I can't wait!
This is a unique, food-lover's event where you get experience the cuisine of Melbourne's best chefs at an affordable price - all under the stunning dome of the Royal Exhibition Building.
The who's who of Melbourne's dining scene will be cooking up a storm, with each participating restaurant offering their signature dishes to buy and savour, perhaps with some perfectly-matched wine.
Participating restaurants include Melbourne's absolute
best 'hatted' restaurants: MoVida (it's stunning - I've been), George Calombaris' Press Club and new Hellenic Republic, Circa the Prince, Fifteen, Maha Bar & Grill and a host of others.
Allow yourself plenty of time. There are lots of enticing stalls featuring Victoria's leading produce suppliers to browse, along with the Australian Gourmet Traveller Taste Kitchen and Wine Theatre. Click
here for more details and session times of the featured areas.
Taste of Melbourne has its own currency. You buy a little booklet of 'Crowns', with each Crown costing $1. Dishes cost between 8 and 14 Crowns, or dollars. Even though the dishes are smaller than normal, if you've dined out recently, you'll know that that's an absolute bargain!
If you can, try and avoid peak times like Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. It can get quite crowded. Head in maybe Thursday night or Friday afternoon to avoid long queues.
Also, you need to pace yourself - and bring an appetite - to make the most of it. Bon appetit!
