A Street Cat Named Bob is a delightful film based on the life-affirming true story of an unlikely friendship between a homeless busker, James Bowen and a stray cat named Bob.

I'm a dog person, so I wasn't expecting to warm to this film about a cat who changes a homeless junkie's life. The film is based on James' bestselling autobiographical book about second chances. I was surprised to learn the cat is played by the real-life Bob, who is (although I hate to admit it) adorable with his piercing green eyes.

James shows talent as he sings and plays guitar playing in central London, but it's his cat that draws the crowd in. Later he sells The Big Issue a reporter wants to write about the unlikely pair because they are "a human-interest story".

Sometimes we just need someone to support us and for James, his luck is turned around by his sobriety adviser who is able to secure him a flat. Bob slips through an open window and James feeds him the last of his food. The responsibility of looking after a cat becomes a reason for James to kick to heroin habit for good.

A Street Cat Named Bob might just make you change how you feel about the homeless or at least be grateful for not having to worry about your next meal.
