A Husband's Guide to Mother's Day

Okay Dads, we all know "she's not your Mum," but she is the Mother of your children, and Mother's Day is a perfect time to show your appreciation for the partner that she is in this tough job of parenting.
Where to start? Well, first let's bust a few myths:
1) Homemade is best: Myth. Homemade is cute and fun but
Pandora makes really nice charms too. Lots of Pandora's charms are Mother's Day themed, starting at just $30; perfect if she already has a bracelet. Upgrade and get her a bracelet and a charm from each of the kids; they can help you pick them out online.
2) She needs to spend all day with the kids on Mother's Day: Myth. She spends all day with the kids
every day. Give your wife some time to herself on Mother's Day, perhaps even push her out the door with a spa gift certificate in hand. If you're giving her a spa
anything, make sure it comes with guilt-free time to execute.
Starts as low as $31 weekdays ; or send her on a
day trip with one of her friends. Of course, she'll want to spend
some quality time with the kids today, so maybe execute breakfast in bed first.
3) Going out for a meal will be fun: Myth. Okay, I guess it depends on the ages of your kids. If you're planning to go out, maybe include your wife in the plan. You may just end up with stress and embarrassment at the restaurant, not to mention blood, sweat, and tears, as well as a waste of hard earned money on whatever the kids didn't eat in the midst of their tantrums. If you do decide to head out, check this handy list of
Restaurants in Victoria with Playgrounds.
So buy her some bling to go with the macaroni necklace, order take away, send her out, and eat with the kids. Now that we've debunked some myths, here are five more fabulous finds for Fathers to buy Mothers for Mother's Day:
1) Start a Mother's Day journal with your kids. Instead of a Mother's Day card from the kids each year,
start a journal like this one. File it somewhere safe and bring it out again next year, and the year after, and the year after. When your youngest is about 10 or 12, digitally scan all of the pages into a hard cover photo book for an amazing keep sake.
2) Help your kids to drum up some breakfast and bring it to your wife/partner in bed... after she has had a long sleep-in of course. It's a classic. Pair it with a completed copy of
this pdf printable , and perhaps a little bling, and you're set.
3) Think
outside the box. Brunch or high tea on Mother's Day is going to be busy, expensive, and potentially hard on your wife
and your kids. What does your wife like? Can you start or renew a certain magazine subscription on her favourite hobby or a topic of interest? Are there
any shows coming to town that she'd love to have tickets to? Maybe a day of Op-shopping (kid-free!)?
4) Romance is an investment in your relationship with your wife, and a perfect way to express your appreciation for all that she does as the mother of your children. It doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to wait for
a romantic dinner out. Peninsula Hot Springs has some great social baths that you can have fun at with the whole family, or book the Dreaming Centre for a kidless time at the hot springs.
5) Combined with some of the ideas above, a donation to a cause that your wife believes in can also be a very meaningful and thoughtful gift. How about
adopting and naming a dolphin as a family project?
Sponsoring a child ? Donating to
St Kilda Mums ,
Geelong Mums , or
Eureka Mums is a way of sharing the joy of motherhood with those in need.
There you have it Super-Dads; you got this! Get out your cape and get ready to shine this
Mother's Day , because your wife is worth it (she's worth it every day, but today's a good day to remind her that you know so)!
