The weather has definitely turned this week, with hotter temperatures and a forecast for more rainfall and storms than we have seen in the last few months. Summer is on the way!
Many people, and especially children, are scared of storms.But forewarned is forearmed. With the right information, everyone can be prepared and know what to do in case of emergencies such as bush fires, flooding, and wind or hail storms.On 19 October 2014 emergency broadcaster
612 ABC Brisbane is hosting an 'Emergency Ready Day' at the Cultural Forecourt in South Bank. This is the perfect opportunity to talk to the experts and find out exactly what you can do to minimise the impact of fires, floods and storms on you and your family.
Emergency Ready Day will feature displays and demonstrations from Queensland's major emergency services and other organisations, including:
The Rural Fire Service Queensland with their Bushfire Simulator Trailer, a Rural Fire Engine, Little Flick (their miniature Fire Engine for kids) and their mascot, Blazer Koala
Red Cross with emergency kit displays and games for the kids
SES volunteers showcasing some of their equipment and vehicles, including their rescue boat
Givit.org.au providing information on how to donate goods during a disaster as well as how to get help
This family event will be broadcast live by
Chris Welsh on 612 ABC Brisbane from 10am to 12pm. Fireman Sam will make a special appearance, with Fireman Sam merchandise for sale at the
ABC Pop-up Shop . Free joyrides on a Hire Engine for young and old will add a fun element to the day.
