2230 is a boutique restaurant and bar named after the postcode of Cronulla: 2230. It's easy to remember, and easy to locate, facing the railway station.

Its versatility and eminence are unparalleled. Whatever your mood, you can sit back on a cherry red lounge, or choose high stools over white gloss tables indoors, perhaps join the throng outdoors on timber and aluminum settings catching the cool evening breeze.

The décor is contemporary and understated. I have felt comfortable rocking up in business attire, jeans and cute T shirt, sundress or 'glammed it up' for an evening. Never have I seen a venue flow so seamlessly, catering to various occasions and age groups as 2230.

The tone ranges from hushed elegance for after work drinks with friends, to chilling out Sunday afternoon in the sun. Small functions of 6 to 50 or dancing till 3am (My watch is almost set on Florida time, dinner at 6pm, home by 10ish, so have not experienced the later.)

What I have experienced is an evening of devouring multiple plates of delectable Tapas (Tapas is Spanish for finger food, snacks or appetizers, like Yum Cha to Chinese).

We decided to be surprised and bravely left the ordering to Angela (wise decision). Presented before us appeared a King Prawn and Avocado Starter - two prawns cleverly intertwined sit on a crisp thin chip, chopped avocado laced in a tangy dressing provides delight to your taste buds, Smoked Salmon and Zucchini Fritters - the subtle zucchini flavor and texture enhanced the smokiness of the salmon perfectly, and Peking Duck Rolls - crisp julienne vegetables, duck skin and plum sauce wrapped in rice was light and fresh.

We ohhed and ahhed at the splendor of the presentation making us temporarily forget to eat, we quickly came to our senses (after taking many photos) and relished each mouthful.

Eager to try more, Angela came out with Barramundi and Red Curry Tartlets- surprisingly, no fishy smell, the curry had a subtle kick, the pastry light and flakey, and Chermoula Lamb Skewers -- the lamb was juicy and tender detecting a hint of mint, the tabouli crisp with a polite tang.

They say you begin eating food with your eyes, the presentation is divine, maybe that is why we ate so many. Damn that presentation.
We found the plates light and refined, our palates fresh, and our tummies happy. We tasted five from their menu of 14. Oh dear, looks like we have to return to taste test the other nine!

The plates are $11 each or $ 3 or $30. They have specials during the week; phone to find out which days. It's not the cheapest tapas around, however assuredly the yummiest.

The menu offers three, luscious desserts. Also $11 each. Sharing the Toblerone Pyramid with Honeycomb and Raspberries filled us to capacity.

The drinks are more top shelf as they cater for the over 25's, allowing us, ummm mature folks to enjoy life's pleasures without feeling like a fish out of water in crowded, loud bars.

There's worthy selection is available to match your tastes, here is a guide:
House Wines $7.50 glass
Bottled Beers $6.50
Soft Drinks & Juices $3.50
Cocktails begin $14
If you have a celebration, opt for the Moet & Chandon

It's also worth checking out their drinks specials:
Sangria Sundays – Jugs $20
Friday nights - 7-9pm Cocktails $6 Spirits $5

Cocktails are very personal, everyone has a favourite. The selection is several pages long featuring the popular 'tried and tested' most know and love.

If you are adventurous, like me, ask the bartenders to concoct a cocktail to knock your socks off. Let them know which flavours you like and let them run with it. They relish the opportunity to enchant their clientele.

I did just that and the challenge to be satisfied was imminent. Watching Blake measure and pour spirits and juices then igniting was pure theatrics. One thing I learned, cinnamon sprinkled on a naked flame creates some impressive pyrotechnics. Viola! My personal cocktail. It didn't have a name, so between us we came up with 'Blazing Glory'.

Now I can't divulge the ingredients (trade secret), I can highly suggest you try this cocktail, it was most unusual. Even the staff had to taste it.

On Friday and Sunday afternoon you can soak up some crooning by a variety of local musicians strumming guitars and singing cruzy music. Around 5.30pm to 9pm.

Apparently, (remember I hit the sack early) they have rotating D.J.'s pumping dance music through the venue. 2230 is licensed to 3am!. Lordy, lordy, I definitely won't be able to review this component, I will have to leave that to someone else.

As you can see, we had a blast and needed the photos to be worthy of 2230.
