Aaah, the 1920s; Great Gatsbyesque glamour, devil-may-care decadence, sumptuous parties flowing with champagne. It was a time of extreme excess, a seemingly endless summer until it all came crashing down with the advent of the Great Depression. You too can experience your very own slice of what the French called années folles (the crazy years), when the 1920's Pop Up Bar- Phryne's Final Fling! comes to Rippon Lea on Friday 25 September.

This is every girl's dream opportunity to slip into a slinky dress and don feathers, strings of beads and elbow length gloves. Top your outfit off with T-bar shoes, a bejewelled headpiece, a filmy fan (strictly for effect), and a silky evening bag and you can look like the gorgeous Miss Fisher herself, the ultimate femme fatale. Men, how about a bow tie, waistcoat and boater hat? And where would the well dressed, 1920s man-about-town have been without his cigarette case and pocket watch?

The ultimate embodiment of 1920s night life was the lounge bar or nightclub and Rippon Lea will have its own when the beautiful ballroom comes swinging to life with the Orlando Jazz Combo pumping out favourites from the Jazz Age and the Great American Songbook from 6pm to 10.30pm. To get a taste of what's on offer check out the video below of one of their previous performances at Rippon Lea.

Food will be available from a selection of food vans, and drinks, including wine and beer, will be available at prices ranging from $6 to $8. To really get into the swing of it, I'd recommend trying the Flapper's Fizz Cocktail, but I'd steer clear of quaffing your sparkling wine from ladies' shoes.

Your ticket to this event will also allow you to see the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition , which will be open for viewing in the Rippon Lea Mansion from 6pm to 10pm. This will be one of the last opportunities to view the sumptuous gowns, sets and props from Series Three because the exhibition is due to close on Wednesday 30 September.

When: Friday 25 September from 6pm to 11pm
Where: Rippon Lea House & Gardens, 192 Hotham Street, Elsternwick
Cost: $20. Includes entry to the exhibition. Food and drinks extra.
Tickets: Available now online here .

Please note:
• Cash and EFTPOS facilities are available, however there is no ATM onsite.
• Doors to the ballroom and exhibition will open at 6pm and last drinks will be served at 10.45pm.
